DEFINITION OF NATIONAL HONORARY MEMBERSHIP

I.DEFINITION:

A) The National Constitution and By-laws (NCBL) of 1950-1979 and the amended NCBL on March 30-April 1, 1979 at Cebu National Biennial Convention states Honorary Membership as –

Article III (MEMBERSHIP), Section 2.d – Types of Membership in the Alpha Phi Omega are as follows:

(d) Honorary Member. Honorary membership must be conferred upon any man or woman who by virtue of his/her outstanding contribution in the attainment of the objectives and purpose of Alpha Phi Omega shall have been recommended by any local chapter and approved by the National Executive Board.

B) The amended National Constitution and By-laws on December 27-30, 1981 at Cagayan De Oro National Biennial Convention states Honorary Membership as –

Article III (MEMBERSHIP), Section 2.6 – Types of Membership. (6) Honorary Membership. An honorary member is a person who, by virtue of his or her outstanding contribution to the attainment of the ideals and purposes of Alpha Phi Omega, is conferred such membership as recommended by the any collegiate chapter or the National Executive Board and approved by the National Executive Board.

C) The amended National Code of By-laws (NCBL) on December 15, 1985 at Los Banos Laguna National Biennial Convention states Honorary Membership as –

Article III (MEMBERSHIP), Section 3.h – Types and Conditions of Membership. (h) Honorary Membership. An honorary member is a person who has been recommended for such membership by any basic organizational unit of Alpha Phi Omega and conferred by the National Executive Board by virtue of his/her contributions in the advancement of the ideals, purposes and principles of Alpha Phi Omega; and is duly registered under such membership with the National Council.

Provided that, such membership may not be conferred upon undergraduate students. Provided further, that this type may be changed to alumni membership, upon the recommendation of the basic unit concerned and approved by the National Executive Board.

D) The amended National Code of By-laws on May 26-28, 1991 at PUP Manila National Biennial Convention (NBC) states Honorary Membership as –

Article III (MEMBERSHIP), Section 4.d – Types and Conditions of Membership. (d) Honorary Membership. An honorary member is a person, not heretofore a member, who has been conferred that status by the National Executive Board sitting en banc and approved by the official delegates during a National Convention, upon the recommendation of any local collegiate chapter concerned.

E) The amended National Code of By-laws (NCBL) on May 22-25, 2003 at Bacolod City National Biennial Convention (NBC) states Honorary Membership as –

Article II (MEMBERSHIP), Section 2.e – Membership Categories and Qualifications. e) Honorary. An honorary member is a natural person, not heretofore a member but who had exemplified the cardinal principles of leadership, friendship and service, and has been conferred that status by the General Assembly, upon the recommendation of the Board of Directors, after investigation and endorsement by the Regional Directorate on the advice of either a collegiate chapter or alumni association. No honorary membership shall be conferred unless the matter thereof has been specifically included in the agenda of the General Assembly, the qualifications of the conferee shall have been duly deliberated upon, and that he has received basic orientation in accordance with the rules of the organization.
