MANILA, Philippines – Twelve senior military officials got new posts from President Benigno Aquino III, including 10th Infantry Division chief Maj. Gen. Jorge Segovia who may yet avoid a forced retirement.<\/p>\n
Segovia will replace Lt. Gen. Arthur Tabaquero as the new commander of the AFP\u2019s Eastern Mindanao Command. Tabaquero will retire on April 17.<\/p>\n
Segovia is known for his role in the arrest of the so-called Morong 43 in February 2010.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
He will be replaced by Brig. Gen. Ariel Bernardo, the outgoing commander of the Coordinating Committee on the Cessation of Hostilities – established under the peace process with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front. xxx<\/p>\n
According to another writer, Paul Gutierrez (I wonder why he calls Jojie his brod, APO kaya?) Brod jojie is his favorite amongs the top brass….<\/p>\n

THE scheduled retirement this month of Philippine Army commanding general Lt. General Arturo Ortiz followed by the retirement of AFP chief of staff Gen. Eduardo Oban before the end of the year would mean that our military establishment is headed for major changes in its command structure.<\/p>\n
In the case of the next CGPA, although 11 \u2018star-spangled names\u2019 have been \u2018shortlisted\u2019 and submitted to P-Noy for consideration, it appears that the choice has been narrowed down to just one name — Lt. General Jessie Dellosa, ex-2nd ID chief and the current area commander for Northern Luzon.<\/p>\n
\u2019Yung ibang pangalan yata, kasamang Rene Acosta ng Business Mirror, pampahaba na lang sa listahan, hahaha!<\/p>\n
Of course, there is no doubting the competence and ability of Gen. Jessie, whom I met at the 2nd ID HQ in Tanay, Rizal, prior to his being promoted as Nolcom chief.<\/p>\n
Admittedly though, I cannot say I know him quite well, up close and personal, the way I know another of the candidates, Major General Jorge Segovia, current 10th ID chief, mistah of Chief PNP Nick Bartolome and predecessor of Gen. Dellosa at the 2nd ID.<\/p>\n
The other, deserving candidates in the Army top brass can accuse me of being \u201cbiased\u201d in favor of \u2018Brother Jojie\u2019 but it can\u2019t be helped, really.<\/p>\n
Alangan namang purihin ko ang isang opisyal na hindi ko personal na nasaksihan ang performance, \u2019di ba, Major Jake Obligado (I hope you\u2019re medical check-up turns out good).<\/p>\n
And on this point, Chief PNP Nick, I can say tons of praise on your mistah having known his track record back when he was just an Army colonel.<\/p>\n
Then, too, Brother Jojie has earned the respect not only of his men but of his fellow officers and seniors in the military branch.<\/p>\n
At maganda rin siyempre kung ang Chief PNP at Army chief ay parehong galing sa iisang PMA class, ang PMA Class \u201980, dahil mas madali ang kanilang koordinasyon at pag-uusap sa isyu ng internal security operations.<\/p>\n
As for the likely successor of Gen. Oban, there is also no shame on my part to be openly advocating for the selection of Solcom chief Lt. General Roland Detabali.<\/p>\n
Like Brother Jojie, I\u2019ve known Gen. Roland back when he was just an Army colonel in charge of the ISO in Southern Tagalog, at a period in time when the influence and power of the New People\u2019s Army (NPA) was still at its peak.<\/p>\n
Of course, the guerrillas are still spread out in the entire breadth of Southern Luzon (Southern Tagalog and Bicol region) but it is now an undeniable fact that their influence has waned significantly.<\/p>\n
The debacle was worsted by the fact that their \u2018first generation leaders\u2019 are now either in jail (like Ka Bart Alcantara) or dead (like CPP spokesman Gregorio \u2018Ka Roger\u2019 Rosal).<\/p>\n
Indeed, from being the former bastion of communist power in the entire country, it is also at Solcom that the growth and success of the CPP-NPA has been steadily chopped down to pieces.<\/p>\n
Ang pinakamalalaking tagumpay ngayon ng pamahalaan laban sa CPP-NPA ay matatagpuan sa Solcom area. At nasa record naman lahat \u2019yan.<\/p>\n
While due credit for this success should be given to the men and women of the AFP in the lower echelon and the cooperation of the other stakeholders hungering for peace, full recognition should not be denied to the overall area commander, Gen. Roland, for his inspired, steady and focused leadership.<\/p>\n
And not to miss another point, Gen. Roland too, in his younger years, spent a lot of time in the jungles of Mindanao.<\/p>\n
Kung sa \u201caway\u201d lang, napalaban at nasubukan na ang kanyang galing sa lahat ng sulok ng \u2019Pinas!<\/p>\n
Thus, if P-Noy is dead set on securing the peace in Mindanao, one way or another or, if he simply wants to reduce the headache the conflict there and in other areas of the country is giving him these days, then he would be making a step forward — and in the right direction too — if Gen. Roland is given the chance to take over the post of Gen. Oban.<\/p>\n

PRESIDENT Aquino averted the possible attrition or forced retirement of one of her sisters\u2019 \u201cmistahs\u201d from Philippine Military Academy (PMA) \u201cMapitagan\u201d Class 1980 by assigning him as the new commander of the three-star position Eastern Mindanao Command (Eastmincom).<\/p>\n
Balsy, Pinky, Viel and Kris Aquino are honorary members of PMA Class \u201980.<\/p>\n
Maj. Gen. Jorge Segovia, currently commander of the 10th Infantry \u201cAgila\u201d Division, will replace the outgoing Eastmincom chief, Lt. Gen. Arthur Tabaquero, who will leave the service on April 17 upon reaching the mandatory age of 56.<\/p>\n

Tabaquero belongs to PMA Class \u201978 and a province-mate of the President. Talk is the general has allegedly been offered a government position.<\/p>\n
