“Preparing campus and community leaders through service.”
May 25, 2005
Dear Brothers and Sisters of Alpha Phi Omega of the Philippines:
On behalf of the over 16,000 active members and 350,000 alumni members of Alpha Phi Omega – USA, I send you greetings. Although I am unable to be with you during your National Convention, I’m pleased to have this opportunity to send you this written message. I’m also very happy that we are able to have a contingent of individuals representing APO-USA attending the convention. I’m sure each brother will extend in person their positive thoughts on our relationship over the years.
Your convention theme “APO Now and Beyond: Sustaining the Gains of Leadership, Friendship and Service” seems so appropriate in our current world condition. With the disaster of floods, famine, illiteracy, homelessness, and world conflict, Alpha Phi Omega is an organization that can have a monumental positive impact on college campuses, on our communities, on our nations, and ultimately on our world. One of my favorite sayings is “think globally, act locally.” Each of us can sustain the gains of membership in our great Fraternity by continuing to give of our time, talents, and resources to the causes that our local communities have. Our legacy is what we do to help others while on this earth. Alpha Phi Omega gives us the opportunities to help others and gives us the added benefit of developing our own skills of leadership and increasing our circle of friends. A perfect example of this is the significant Medical-Dental Humanitarian missions that you have sponsored in association with your convention. What an amazing impact you can make in a community by drawing on the skills and resources of your members!
Let us continue to sustain the gains of Leadership by striving to be better Servant Leaders. Let us continue to sustain the gains of Friendship by striving to reach out to all humanity as an extension of our brotherhood. Let us continue to sustain the gains of Service by helping those in our communities with the greatest need. Alpha Phi Omega – now and beyond – it is up to each one of us to make this dream a reality.
We of Alpha Phi Omega – USA look forward to continuing our strong bond of brotherhood with Alpha Phi Omega of the Philippines. We will continue to work with you as part of the International Council (ICAPO) to further the dream of a worldwide collegiate service program that lives through the cardinal principles of Leadership, Friendship and Service.
May the spirit of our cardinal principles live forever strong in the hearts and minds of every member of our great Fraternity.
In Service,
Fred
P.S. I would like to invite each of you to our next national convention in December 2006 in Louisville, Kentucky, USA! We hope you will have a delegation.
