On my honor, I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country; and to obey the scout law.

(REVERENT) To lead a well respected life by following a moral conduct that will conform to the highest standard of virtue.

(CLEAN) To keep my dwelling in order, my manners decent, my thoughts pure, and my dealings fair.

(BRAVE) To not be frightened from doing what I think is right and to do justice to everyone.

(THRIFTY) To be prudent with my words and discreet in my deeds.

(CHEERFUL) To live one day at a time while doing the best of what I am each day; to make the best of what I hope tomorrow by doing a good turn today; to always hope for the best so I can radiate hope to others.

(OBEDIENT) To be subservient to truth that secures my freedom and justice where peace is resting; to defend them both with all my strength and with all my breath. (KIND)To value the individuality of my brothers and everyone I meet; to appreciate that their uniqueness allow me to accommodate their capacity to understand; to recognize that being a bigger person than everyone is being a better person than anyone.

(COURTEOUS) To meet rudeness with courtesy and greet arrogance with graciousness.

(FRIENDLY) To always, try being a friend of everyone by refusing to be an enemy of no one.

(HELPFUL) To help other people at all times and to assist my brothers in need without delay or hesitation;

(TRUSTWORTHY and LOYAL) To keep my words assured by sealing them with my honor; and to keep myself strong not only physically but also in my intent to be true and faithful to this oath.

The principles of the Boy Scout oath and law is the foundation where the framework of the Alpha Phi Omega ideals was established. However, as all boys should grow up into men, the scout oath and laws should also evolve to maturity into the “Standard of Manhood” as envisioned by Frank Reed Horton.

But where is that standard of manhood in us? How come it is still elusive to the majority of us as it was when the founder of this fraternity started seeking for It? Do we all need to go back in the ritual chamber to be reminded of what we are and what we stand for?
