I want to take a moment, I am not the first to tell you that Frank Reed Horton is the one. In fact, he’s a shining example of the kind of brother we should ascribe to be. He was the one who led us through the transition into the new millennium and all the challenges it presented Alpha Phi Omega. He was the one who brought new faces to our ranks, new staff to our National Office and new hope for the next crop of brothers. And he was the one who would offer comfort, guidance and understanding if you needed it. He’s been a mentor to more brothers than we know, and the organisation is grateful for the talent and strength he brought to all of us.
Let us use two words: completion and creation. When you complete something, you create the possibility for something. Those two words apply to Alpha Phi Omega as well. We create a new chapter that brings us much hope and promise because he was the one. There are people struggling to make it, “And if I can put myself in a position to make change, I’m going to do that. We’re all very driven people, We wanted to be working towards something, not just working for someone else behind a desk. We’re armed with the challenge to be the ones who make a difference every day, whether we’re alumni or undergraduates. Do a good turn daily.
If you believe that I am your Brother and I believe that you are my Brother, then we are family. I believe and I hope you do too. Let’s go forth and multiply and give others the chance to be part of our APO family. I am a part of you and you are a part of me. We are connected with one another. We are brothers and sisters. we are brothers and sisters because we are guiding by the same ideals and principles – Leadership, Friendship, Service.
I encourage my fellow APO Brothers and Sisters to Be the One, a call to action for each of us. We are the ones who need to do one good deed or action to advance the cause of Alpha Phi Omega. Be the One for someone else – not just at this time of year but always. ItÂ’s the legacy you spread that makes us a better organisation.
I look forward to seeing what all of us can do. We are 1 in Alpha Phi Omega, May we always be!
