I.DEFINITION:

A) The National Constitution and By-laws (NCBL) of 1950-1979 and the amended NCBL on March 30-April 1, 1979 at Cebu National Biennial Convention states Honorary Membership as –

Article III (MEMBERSHIP), Section 2.d – Types of Membership in the Alpha Phi Omega are as follows:

(d) Honorary Member. Honorary membership must be conferred upon any man or woman who by virtue of his/her outstanding contribution in the attainment of the objectives and purpose of Alpha Phi Omega shall have been recommended by any local chapter and approved by the National Executive Board.

B) The amended National Constitution and By-laws on December 27-30, 1981 at Cagayan De Oro National Biennial Convention states Honorary Membership as –

Article III (MEMBERSHIP), Section 2.6 – Types of Membership. (6) Honorary Membership. An honorary member is a person who, by virtue of his or her outstanding contribution to the attainment of the ideals and purposes of Alpha Phi Omega, is conferred such membership as recommended by the any collegiate chapter or the National Executive Board and approved by the National Executive Board.

C) The amended National Code of By-laws (NCBL) on December 15, 1985 at Los Banos Laguna National Biennial Convention states Honorary Membership as –

Article III (MEMBERSHIP), Section 3.h – Types and Conditions of Membership. (h) Honorary Membership. An honorary member is a person who has been recommended for such membership by any basic organizational unit of Alpha Phi Omega and conferred by the National Executive Board by virtue of his/her contributions in the advancement of the ideals, purposes and principles of Alpha Phi Omega; and is duly registered under such membership with the National Council.

Provided that, such membership may not be conferred upon undergraduate students. Provided further, that this type may be changed to alumni membership, upon the recommendation of the basic unit concerned and approved by the National Executive Board.

D) The amended National Code of By-laws on May 26-28, 1991 at PUP Manila National Biennial Convention (NBC) states Honorary Membership as –

Article III (MEMBERSHIP), Section 4.d – Types and Conditions of Membership. (d) Honorary Membership. An honorary member is a person, not heretofore a member, who has been conferred that status by the National Executive Board sitting en banc and approved by the official delegates during a National Convention, upon the recommendation of any local collegiate chapter concerned.

E) The amended National Code of By-laws (NCBL) on May 22-25, 2003 at Bacolod City National Biennial Convention (NBC) states Honorary Membership as –

Article II (MEMBERSHIP), Section 2.e – Membership Categories and Qualifications. e) Honorary. An honorary member is a natural person, not heretofore a member but who had exemplified the cardinal principles of leadership, friendship and service, and has been conferred that status by the General Assembly, upon the recommendation of the Board of Directors, after investigation and endorsement by the Regional Directorate on the advice of either a collegiate chapter or alumni association. No honorary membership shall be conferred unless the matter thereof has been specifically included in the agenda of the General Assembly, the qualifications of the conferee shall have been duly deliberated upon, and that he has received basic orientation in accordance with the rules of the organization.

 

II. PAST HONORARY MEMBERSHIP GUIDELINES

National Executive Board (NEB) Res # 1999-2001-68A : Adoption of the general guidelines for granting National Honorary Membership, as follows:

(1) Honorary Membership Application Form with:

1.1) Biodata
1.2) Position Paper
1.3) Documentation of the exemplary practice of the three cardinal principles

(2) Three (3) pieces of latest 1×1 ID picture either Black &White or Colored

(3) Must have been an alumni of any college/university for at least five (5) years

(4) Endorsements:

4.1) Any basic organizational unit

a) Applicant must be from any recognized local collegiate chapter (not considered retired or revoked)

a.1)Must be signed by the Grand Chancellor (GC)/Grand Lady Chancellor (GLC) ID cardholder or any two (2) alumni ID cardholder from the applicant’s chapter at the time the application is submitted for processing

b) Applicable to alumni who are working or residing within the chapter’s locality or working or residing outside the chapter’s locality/regional jurisdiction at the time the application is submitted for processing

b.1)Must be duly signed by the GC/GLC ID cardholder of any recognized local collegiate chapter of their choice within the region or any two (2) alumni ID cardholder of that chapter or incumbent President of any recognized alumni association within the region

4.2) Regional Development Director (RDD) of the region where the alumni presently resides or works.

(5) Fees

5.1) Refer to the amount of which the NEB determined to be paid by the applicant.

5.2) Attach the xerox or duplicate copy of deposit slip of any accredited bank of the organization or money order to the honorary membership application form.

5.3) Payment may also be made directly to the National Office or National Treasurer or any of his/her authorized representative/s.

(6) Submit the application form with all the requirements to the Regional Development Director.

6.1) Must be submitted ninety (90) days before any scheduled regular NEB meeting to the National Office.

(7) Claim the Honorary Membership ID card to your RDD or to the National Office/National Administrative Officer within thirty (30) days upon notice of approval by the NEB during any of its regular meetings.

(8) Updating Honorary Membership ID card:

8.1) Accomplish renewal form

8.2) Attach two (2) pieces of latest 1×1 ID picture B&W or colored

8.3) Payment of ID cost to the National Office or direct payment or deposit amount to any accredited bank, and attach xerox copy of the deposit slip to the renewal form

8.4) Always request for receipts

(9) ID card lost shall be required to do the same procedures as # 8

 

III. NATIONAL HONORARY MEMBERSHIP GUIDELINES

NATIONAL HONORARY MEMBERSHIP GUIDELINES, under the amended National Code of By-laws (NCBL) in May 2003 at Bacolod City NBC, was approved in May 2007 at Tagaytay City NBC. Refer the National Honorary Membership Guidelines to Commission on Membership (CoMe) website at www.CoMe.apo.org.ph.
