In today’s BOT Special Meeting with Team Tacloban (GA preparatory committee), it was reported by EVAR Regional Director Sis. Nancy Go, who is a nurse by profession and is currently leading a team of APO nurses for APO Telemedicine Project, that it will be impossible for them to host the GA because of the COVID-19 Pandemic. Co-chairman and former Abuyog, Leyte mayor who now serve as the town’s vice mayor Bro. Bebot Traya also voiced the same sentiment. Yeam Tacloban’s other members were also present during the BOT meeting.
Instead, there will be a Virtual General Assembly that will be held on May 15 this month. The only purpose of the General Assembly is to amend a portion of the CBL so that an election can be done online. The current APO CBL is silent about holding an election online.
The BOT approved a resolution to defer the hosting of Tacloban City to a future date where face to face General Assembly will be allowed. The BR was proposed by Vice Chairman Waida Lucman and supported by other BOT members present. There were seven BOT members present.
Meanwhile, the BOT and APO Comelec is preparing for the online election. The BOT held two special sessions for some tech companies to present their APPs or system. Two had already been presented and another one will be entertained on Thursday this week.
APO COMELEC Chairman Atty. Armand Arevalo voiced his concern over the possibility that some unscrupulous persons might cast more than one vote, a concern that was also shared by other members of the BOT.
The BOT will continue to hold sessions and consultation until there is an assurance that the system that is selected will produce clean and credible result.
